I don't understand how people can have such widely varied experiences at the same place. My family took my 82 year old mother to Felidia for her birthday. My mom is a big fan of Lidia, and we were delighted to find her in attendance. She graced our table with several visits, took a photo with my mom, and signed her menu. She was thrilled. The service was impeccable. The food was extraordinary. The octopus appetizer, cooked 2 ways, (grilled chunks and thinly sliced and marinated) was tender and had a marvelous flavor. Others had tuna carpaccio which was also pristinely fresh and delicious. The pasta was perfectly cooked in a savory tomato sauce graced with strips of freshly sauteed eggplant. My main course, osso bucco, was extraordinary; braised with meat falling off of the bone, and a rich tomato-based gravy. The other entrees at the table were equally excellent. Braised lamb shoulder was succulent. Beef cheeks were extraordinary, tender enough to eat with a spoon, calves liver so fresh, quickly seared on both sides, had the consistency of pate, served with strips of caramelized onions. Portions were larger than I expected, and everyone was more than satisfied at meals end, more than 3 hours after entering the restaurant. Dessert was a chocolate mousse cake with fresh raspberries and strawberries. Dense and fabulous, along with expertly prepared capuccino. Great Italian food starts with great, fresh, local ingredients, and these were found in abundance at Felidia. I can't help but believe that jealous competitors wrote the bad reviews. Felidia is just too good. Thank you, Lidia, for an enchanting evening. My family will always remember this night.
